THE C6 VERTEBRA WAS FRACTURED DUE TO A FLEXION COMPRESSION FORCE SUSTAINED DURING A HEAD ON CAR ACCIDENT.  ANTERIOR TO THE CERVICAL SPINE IS A LARGE MASS OF EXTRA BONE DUE TO A  DISEASE PROCESS CALLED DIFFUSE IDIOPATHIC SKELETAL HYPERTROPHY OR D..I.S.H.  THE BONE MASS MADE AN ANTERIOR APPROACH AND STANDARD ANTERIOR CERVICAL  FUSION WITH INSTRUMENTATION QUITE DIFFICULT AND NOT RECOMMENDED. A POSTERIOR FUSION  AND SPINOUS PROCESS WIRING FROM C5 TO C7 WITH PELVIC CREST AUTOLOGOUS BONE GRAFT WAS PERFORMED WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS.
