HYDROCEPHALUS

HYDROCEPHALUS OR EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF CEREBRAL SPINAL FLUID C.S.F. WITHIN THE CAVITIES OF THE BRAIN MAY REQUIRE SURGICAL TREATMENT. THE EXTRA FLUID WITHIN THE VENTRICLES ( CAVITIES) OF THE BRAIN CAN BE DRAINED OR SHUNTED INTO THE ABDOMEN OR SPECIFICALLY THE PERITONEAL CAVITY. THE BRAIN PRODUCES THIS PURIFIED WATER CONSTANTLY. IF TOO MUCH C.S.F. VOLUME IS PRESENT THEN THE PRESSURE CAN RISE WITHIN THE HEAD CAUSING SYMPTOMS SUCH AS HEADACHE, VOMITING, MEMORY LOSS, IMBALANCE, OR IMPAIRED BLADDER CONTROL SUCH AS INCONTINENCE. .

THIS MRI SHOWS THE ENLARGMENT OF THE VENTRICULAR SYSTEM WITHOUT A TUMOR MASS OBSTRUCTING THE C.S.F PASSAGES.
